Needs Assessment: • To instruct teachers how to use Internet Explorer as a teaching tool. • Teachers should be able to use the Internet in a classroom environment. • To instruct teachers how to use the basic tools within Internet Explorer. • The Harlingen C.I.S.D has a district wide computer network with wireless network available on each campus. They also have computer labs available to students to use for 45 minutes each day. This is really not enough time for students to complete research for classes. • The recommended solution for filling the gap: The school should provide e-Readers to students so that they can that they can read books and access any research information that they need to complete their assignments.
Instructional Goal: • After completing this training, by following my instructions instructors will be able to effectively use Internet Explorer as a teaching tool that will give students a positive learning experience. Goal Statements: • After completing this training, teachers will be able to use Internet Explorer as a teaching tool. • After completing this lesson, students will be able to effectively use different features within Internet Explorer.
Performance Objectives: • Objective #1 Using Internet Explorer (CN), the learner will use the address bar within Internet Explorer to look up different web pages (B) With 90% accuracy (CR). • Objective #2 Using Internet Explorer (CN) the learner will learn how to use a search engine (B) using different search criteria (CN). • Objective #3 Using Internet Explorer (CN), the learner will learn how to use different features in the menu bar (B) with 80% accuracy (CN).
Learner Characteristics: • The target audience for this web-based training will be teachers, paraprofessionals, and office staff of Vernon Middle School. • The learners will possess the knowledge of basic computer skills. • Additional information that would be necessary for the design of the training module would be basic knowledge of Windows operating system.
Learning Context: • The intended instructional setting will be primarily in the workplace setting, specifically in a computer lab at Vernon Middle School. • A campus laptop in the middle school library with Internet access, will also meet the training requirements. • If time constraints does not allow for staff members to be at the training, handouts will be available for staff members to complete the training on their own time.
Training Module Outline: • Introduction: (a) Overview of Training: Welcome to my training where you will learn how to use Internet Explorer and its different feature. Internet Explorer has different features available to the user. Some of the features within Internet Explorer include: a search engine, copy and paste, and or print function.
Training Module Outline: • Introduction: (b) Statement of Goal and Objectives: After completing this tutorial you will be able to: • Properly format an address on the address bar • Use methods for completing a search within a search engine • Use the different options from the menu bar
Training Module Outline: • Introduction: (c) What does the Online Training Include? The tutorial consists the basic functions of Internet Explorer At the end of this tutorial you will take a quiz to assess what you have learned.
Training Module Outline: • Summary: The learner will be thanked for participating in the tutorial. I will ask the learners to fill out a brief survey that I will provide to them at the end of the tutorial. • Assessment: The final assessment will consist of the learner taking a quiz.
Instructional Resources: • The learners will only need to have access to a computer, and Internet access. The computer and Internet access will be provided by the school district.

Formative Evaluation: • My husband who is a computer expert will serve as a Subject Matter Expert in reviewing the different functions of Internet Explorer and its functions. A friend who is familiar with Internet Explorer software will serve as a peer reviewer and evaluate the effectiveness of the functions used within Internet Explorer. • I will rely on the feedback provided by both reviewers to make appropriate changes to the tutorial as needed.
Summary • The purpose of the online instructional tutorial will provide teachers and paraprofessionals with the necessary skills, and knowledge needed to use Internet Explorer to its fullest potential in the work place and at home. By the end of this tutorial the learners will be able to navigate to different web pages. The learners will be able to use a search engine and be able to manipulate data from web pages.
