Children study examples of interviews with parents from ‘When I Lived in Somalia..’(Published by London Borough of Tower Hamlets & GlobeTown Action Zone: 2006) • Write questions for parents and grandparents on memories of school (in English and home language – transliterated using English letters if not sure of home script) • Bring back answers and create powerpoint on school experiences in different countries
Mahomed’s questions in Somali & English Sumaya’s questions in English, Bengali script and transliteration (using both standard Bengali and Sylheti)
Hassan was relatively new to English but he used his knowledge of English letters to transliterate his questions. He could also write them fluently in Farsi • Hassan had lived in Iran and Afghanistan and during this project the teacher discovered he could speak five languages
