  10. Vietnam, November 2007 Erasmus Mundus Master ALGANT in Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory http://www.math.jussieu.fr/~miw/ 10

  11. Erasmus Mundus Masters:an invitation to France and Europe A master in Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory ALGANT 11

  12. Mundus Masters: a quality offer in higher education • The Bologna process: the European countries are working together to build a common higher education system • To help this process the European Community has initiated the Erasmus Mundus Programme, whose first aim is to promote a quality offer in higher education 12

  13. Mundus Masters: an invitation to Europe • With the Mundus programme the European Community also wants to encourage and enable highly qualified graduates and scholars from all over the world to obtain qualifications and/or experience in the European Union Bordeaux • Special funds have been reserved to enforce the programme • (scholarships available) 13

  14. Mundus Master ALGANT: an invitation to higher mathematics • In September 2004 the European Community has selected 19 master courses, among which only one in mathematics: the master in Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory, offered by the Universities of Bordeaux, Leiden, Padova and Paris (ALGANT) Leiden • ALGANT allows strong graduates to prepare a career in research (in academia (PhD) or in the many companies seeking the know- how taught) 14

  15. Mundus Master ALGANT: how to enroll • For more information please visit • A good level in Mathematics • (strong Bachelor in Mathematics) and in English is required Padova http://www.math.u-bordeaux1.fr/ALGANT 15

  16. Vietnam, November 2007 Campus Maths, Campus France http://www.math.jussieu.fr/~miw/ 16

  17. Choosing mathematics studies in France Enrolling in a master’s program through the CampusMaths network 17

  18. Choosing mathematics studies in France • Among 44 Fields medals, 11 have been awarded to mathematicians in France(Laurent Lafforgue in 2002, Wendelin Werner in 2006) • A strong mathematics tradition in France “Paris, the world’s leading center for mathematics” 18

  19. Choosing mathematics studies in France • New fields of application for mathematics such as meteorology, epidemiology and stochastic theories, cryptography and coding theory • Today one out of every three PhD dissertations in fundamental and applied sciences in France is defended by a foreign student 19

  20. CampusMaths: objectives Promoting mathematics programs in France throughout the world Orientating foreign students and helping them apply online Coordinating online applications to higher education institutions through a single portal 20

  21. CampusMaths: a network of universities A network of 30 French universities which enables its members to: • Improve their international visibility • Offer programs adapted to an international public • Receive standardized applications electronically • Choose students according to their profile 21

CampusMaths: map of education institutions University of Cergy-Pontoise University of Marne-la-Vallée University of Paris 1 University of Paris 6 University of Paris 7 University of Paris 10 University of Paris 11 University of Paris 12 University of Paris 13 University of Valenciennes University of Lille 1 University of Nancy 1 University of Picardy University of Strasbourg 1 University of Caen University of Haute Alsace University of Le Maine University of Franche-Comté University of Rennes 1 University of Clermont-Ferrand 2 University of Nantes University of Lyon 1 University of AngersUCO (Université catholique de l’Ouest) University of Savoy University of Grenoble 1 University of Tours University of Avignon University of Bordeaux 1 University of Nice–Sophia Antipolis University of Provence University of Pau 22 University of Montpellier 2

  23. CampusMaths: orientation Providing students with the necessary information to choose the most suitable program: • A complete, up-to-date presentation of the French higher education system, courses of study and degrees in mathematics 23

  24. CampusMaths: orientation • A choice of 150 programs at the Master 1 level (4th year of university-level studies) or the Master 2 level (5th year of university-level studies) • Tools to research programs by disciplinary field and key words 24

  28. CampusMaths: online application To enroll online: • A single application form filled out by the student which can be accessed by all members of the network 28

  29. CampusMaths: online application • A “paper” file verified by CampusFrance • An international enrollment calendar which the entire network recognizes and abides by 29

  30. CampusMaths: online application Contents of the application file: General information Detailed student resume Transcript of grades received from the first year of higher studies up to the current year Letter of motivation 30

  31. CampusMaths: online application A single paper file sent to CampusFrance: Printed and signed copy of the electronic file (certified supporting documents translated by accredited translators, sealed letters of recommendation, etc.) 31

  32. CampusMaths: calendar for the online application • October 2007 – February 18, 2008: students complete their online application and send CampusFrance their paper file by surface mail CampusFrance verifies the consistency between the online application and the hard copy documents, then validates the application • March2008: universities send out admissions offers 32

  33. CampusMaths: calendar for the online application • Beginning of April: students make their choice of education institution • Within 15 days, students receive a notice of acceptance from the program manager, which is the document needed to obtain a student visa 33

  34. CampusMaths: online application Prerequisites: Holding a degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (for admission to a Master 1 program) or a Master 1 degree (for admission to a Master 2 program) Having an adequate level of French: self-evaluation or official certification (TCF, TEF or DALF) 34

  35. CampusMaths: online application Fees: • €150 administration fee paid to Agence CampusFrance only if the student accepts one of the offers • Approximately €200 euros in enrollment fees, if admitted + other possible specific fees 35

  36. The CampusFrance networkand the online application programs The n+i network: A network of 61 engineering schools which have already trained 700 students from 45 countries The CampusDroit network: A network of 25 law universities offering 280 Master’s level programs The CampusArt network: A network of 50 institutions offering 150 Bachelor’s and Master’s level art programs 36

  37. The CampusFrance networkand the online application programs The CampusEcoGestion network: A network of 30 economics and management universities and business administration institutes (IAEs) offering 300 Master’s level programs The CampusHumanités network: A network of 20 humanities and social sciences universities offering nearly 200 Master’s level programs The CampusMaths network: A network of more than 30 universities offering 100 Master’s level mathematics programs 37
