About Us • Formed Feb 2005 • Grad student group focusing on improving sustainability of UC Berkeley (projects and events) • General meetings every third Wed 6:30-7:30 pm, Chinquapin Room (4th floor MLK) Dates: Oct 4th, Oct 25th, Nov 15th • Exec meetings 1 week before general meetings

The Green Initiative Fund • Student fee referendum to raise funds for projects to improve environmental sustainability on campus • Renewable energy, energy efficiency, water conservation, climate change mitigation • $5/semester to raise ~$200,000/yr • On the ASUC ballot in May 2007 • Student control over funds • WHY? Strong statement by students of commitment to a greener Berkeley! Other schools have already taken the lead (e.g. UCSC, UCSB)

Battery Recycling Program • Public not aware of necessity of recycling batteries • No means for students to recycle batteries on campus How you can get involved: • Increase public awareness of recycling batteries • Work with the campus to install battery recycling bins
OSC (One Side Clean) Paper Reuse Project • Designed unique paper re-use collection bin • Distributed ~100 bins • To date bins have been very successful TO DO: • Analyze effectiveness of bins • Develop proposal for large scale manufacture

Greening Local Copy Shops • Objective • Work with local copy shops to improve their purchasing practices (RC paper) • Identify productive end-use for their OSC paper How you can get involved: • Draft letter to copy shop managers • Circulate a petition around campus departments expressing commitment to do business with those shops who ‘go green’ • Develop system for convenient collection of OSC paper and find appropriate end-user
