  2. European Regulatory Issues TCAM is the Telecommunications Conformity Assessment and Market Surveillance Committee of the European Commission (DG Enterprise). • Interpretation and guidance on the European telecommunications equipment compliance procedures fall under the remit of the TCAM. • In TCAM there is a discussion about whether wireless chargers should either fall under the scope of the RTTE Directive (as radio communication devices) or the EMC and Safety Directives. • TCAM has requested a view from ETSI and this issue and their questions are at the core of a work item in TC ERM.

  3. Observations • The TC ERM Rapporteur group has observed and is considering that there is : • a wide range of wireless power transfer (WPT) technology proposals and a wide range of transfer powers. • no defined frequency range of operation. • a range of charging system architectures with respect to the power transfer function and control and feedback. • an interpretation by some that sensing and control feedback is considered as radio-communication. • ongoing industry standards activity for evolving WPT technologies. Consideration in the ERM work has been limited to close coupled inductive applications (resonant and non-resonant).

  4. Next Steps / Actions The outcome of the Rapporteur group is expected to be presented to the next TC ERM meeting (#45) on 21-24 November 2011.
