VOCABULARY Translation Image Transformation SECTION3.5Translations LEARNING TARGETS: Students will be able to table and draw translations. Students will be able to use algebraic notation to describe translations.
Vocabulary: • TRANSFORMATION: • An operation that maps, or moves, a figure onto an image. • EXAMPLES: • Dilation (Multiply all sides of a shape, scale factor) • Reflection (Flip over a line) • Rotation (Spin object around) • Translation (Pick up object and move to new location) • We will look at translations today!
Vocabulary: • TRANSLATION: • A transformation that slides each point of a figure the same distance in the same direction. • The new figure after the translation is performed is called the IMAGE.
Example (Notes) • Use Words: • Slide Left 2 • Slide Down 1 • Use “Coordinate Notation” • (x, y) (x – 2, y – 1)
Example (Notes) (x, y) (x , y )
