In the beginning • His parents were Peter and Jane Jefferson. • He was born April 13th, 1743 • There were ten children in his family. • At a young age he started studying Latin, Greek, and French • He along with other members of his family was very musical and learned to play the violin.
ThomasJefferson • When he was 14 Jefferson’s father passed away and gave him the entire Jefferson estate. • At age 16 he went to the college of William & Mary. • Just after graduating he started looking into law with the teaching of a George Wythe. • Jefferson started building his beautiful well known Monticello home when he was 26. • At age 29 he married Martha Skelton and even though she died young they had six children together.
What he did • The first political thing he did was take a seat as a member of Virginia House of Burgesses in1769 • Thomas Jefferson was elected third President of the United States against previous President John Adams. • He also wrote the Declaration of Independence which shows that he was one who cared about human rights.
Facts about Thomas J. • Through his life he was very much into farming and keeping the land that his father lift him up to par. • He was known as the “father” of the University of Virginia. • He was one of the Presidents added to the Mount Rushmore memorial
Political Facts • He was the first Secretary of State under President George Washington from 1790-1793 • He served as Governor of Virginia from 1779-1781. • In 1797 he became Vice President to John Adams.
In the end • After his presidency he was succeeded by his friend James Madison. • The only major event he did as a former President was help in finding and building the University of Virginia. • He died on the fifteenth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1826.
