SAFETY ALERT 2008-11-11 Issue ID No. 019 PREVENTATIVE MEASURES Stop Work Authority is critical to preventing accidents • Avoid complacency even though you’ve done the same job numerous times without incident. • Managing safety starts by consciously recognizing hazards and realizing that everything around us has the potential to contribute to an incident. • Take ownership of your behavior. You are the key to an incident-free work environment. • Make safety a habit everyday. Every Complete Production Services employee not only has the authority but the responsibility to ensure their own safety and the safety of others while on the job. Part of that authority includes the ability to stop workimmediately when they witness an unsafe act or believe an unsafe condition exists. • Every employee is responsible for speaking up when they observe a person performing an at-risk behavior. • Every employee has the right and responsibility to stop work on a job if we ever suspect that continuing may put themselves or their co-workers in danger. • Before you begin work, think through how you’re going to stay safe despite the potential risks associated with the task. • Properly shut down equipment before conducting any type of maintenance. • Make sure you have the right tool for the task at hand. • Always use the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the task. • Make sure you are not in an unsafe position or location. • When it comes to safety, disagreement does not mean disrespect. Speak up if you believe there’s a problem.
