  5. What if I need more information? • There is a wealth of information on the Web but one has to remember that anyone can post anything on the Web. Therefore, it is very important to be sure that the source is a reliable one. • Let’s look at one of thousands of Web pages dedicated to evaluating websites.

  7. Consider the following when evaluating websites • Credibility • Accuracy • Reliability • Relevance • Date • Sources behind the text

  8. Ask yourself….. • Who is the author/publisher? Credentials? • Is he/she an authority on this subject? • What is his/her agenda? Biased? • Intent of website? Promoting, advertising….. • Does the page have contact info? • Does the page have supporting evidence? Have they cited?

  13. Research Search and Search Again • The Internet is great - but books are too. Don’t rely completely on the Internet. • Use the school’s Media Center the Montgomery Public Library. • Use one of the local university libraries or one of the local base libraries, if you have access.

  14. Plagiarism- -Don’t Be Guilty!! Plagiarism occurs when a writer deliberately uses someone else’s language, ideas, or other original material without acknowledging its source.

  15. Must everything be cited? NO • facts that are widely known or • information considered “common knowledge” Do NOT have to be documented.

  16. Whenever you: Use an original idea from one of your sources, whether you quote or paraphrase it. Summarize original ideas from one of your sources. Use factual information that is not common knowledge. 4. Quote directly from a source. 5. Use a date, fact, or statistic that might be disputed. When Should I Document Sources?
