  1. ITU-T SG 12 Performance Metrics Liaison & Coordination Al Morton, wearing the hat of: Rapporteur of Question 17, Performance of Packet-based Networks and other networking technologies November, 2010

  2. Results from March/May/Sept 2010 Meetings – Planned for Approval Jan ‘11 • Two new “Metrics” for Y.1540 • Title: "IP Packet Transfer and Availability Performance Parameters“ • Stream Repair Parameters • IP-Layer Capacity Parameters * • Ethernet Service Activation Test Methodology – Y.156sam (Live Nets) • Covers gap between • desire to run RFC 2544-like tests, and • Lab-only Scope of RFC 2544, plus • Unknown target Throughput in RFC 2544 • Related to IPPM’s TCP Test Framework

  3. Results from March/May/Sept 2010 Meetings – Planned for Approval Jan ‘11 • Home Networking Performance Parameters: • Adding RT Delay and RT Loss Parameters

  4. IP-Layer Capacity in Y.1540 • Builds on RFC 5136 Metrics • Adds Tight Link Capacity Definition • consider in IPPM? • Adds Min, Max, and Variance of the Capacity Metrics • And, recognizing IPPM discussion: • “Link” => “Basic Section” • can be Exchange Link or Network Section • Links have the simplest relationship for capacity above layer2

  5. IP-Layer Capacity • Diagram above will change, “Basic Section” • Both IPv4 and IPv6 • There can be multiple IP-layers • tunneling in MobileIP, etc. • avoid “THE” IP layer…

  6. Performance Parameters for Optimization of Stream Repair Techniques • Simple Model of FEC and ARQ systems • Blocks/Intervals of packets • Maximum stream damage repairable • Divide the stream into blocks
