Why is it called “The Gilded Age”? • A novel written by Mark Twain, ridiculing Washington, DC and many of the leading business men of the time. “Gilded” refers to the mass of wealth created in the late 19th century.
This was a less than Golden time for our presidents, however. A time of rather second-rate leaders. So we will just briefly summarize their legacy. Or lack thereof.
