  3. SNMP Overview • Simple Network Management Protocol is a standard TCP/IP protocol used to monitor devices on an IP network. The working parts are: • Server or Manager: BVMS has a built in SNMP Server which can be configured to monitor all of your system devices! • Agent: All of your Bosch IP cameras and Encoders are considered agents. • MIB: Management Information Bases is a list of variables that the SNMP Server can monitor. Individual line items in a MIB file have OIDs or Object Identifiers. • Trap: Asynchronous notification from agent to manager which includes an OID for identifying the type of trap.

  4. Enabling SNMP on IP Devices • On all Bosch IP Encoders and Cameras SNMP can be enabled: • On the desired device select the “Network” menu and “Advanced” sub menu • Turn SNMP “On” • Enter the IP address of the BVMS Management Server

  5. Enabling SNMP on IP Devices • Click the “Select” button • Select from the list of available traps • Select “OK” Select relay-output-state!

  6. MIB OIDs • Within every version of Bosch Firmware zip file there is a “vipx_snmp.mib” file: • Open the firmware zip file and either extract or copy and paste the file to your desktop • Open with Notepad

  7. MIB OIDs • Inside the MIB file you will find a long list of OIDs • For this exercise find “relay-output-state” • Copy the OID number in the left column

  8. Configuring the BVMS SNMP Server • To enable the built in SNMP Server: • Select “Other Devices” menu in the Device Tree • Right click the “SNMP” submenu and select “Add SNMP” • In the SNMP pop up menu enter the IP address of the BVMS Management Server • Select “OK” The SNMP option must be selected during installation!

  9. Configuring the BVMS SNMP Server • With the SNMP Server highlighted: • Select the “Add” button in the SNMP Trap Receiver Menu • Add the IP addresses of the devices you want to monitor traps from

  10. Configuring the BVMS SNMP Server • From the “Trap Filter Rules” menu: • Select the “Add” button • Paste the OID copied from the MIB file • In the “Value” menu enter the appropriate value or a “*” as a wildcard. Note: Values will vary based on OID options!

  11. Checking Work: Trap Logger • To Check your work: • Select the “Show Trap Logger Tool” • Check the “Only Traps From Sender” box and enter the IP address of the devices you want to test • Select the “Start” button • From the device’s Web Browser toggle the relay!

  12. Configuring a Systems Event • To configure a System Event based on a SNMP Trap: • Select “Events” • “Network Devices” and “SNMP Trap Received” sub menu • Assign a valid schedule to the “Trap”

  13. Configuring a Systems Alarm • To configure a System Alarm based on the SNMP Trap event: • Select the “Alarms” tab and the “Network Devices” submenu • Configure all desired alarm options as covered in the “Events and Alarms Module” • Save your work and push your configuration!
