SNMP Overview • Simple Network Management Protocol is a standard TCP/IP protocol used to monitor devices on an IP network. The working parts are: • Server or Manager: BVMS has a built in SNMP Server which can be configured to monitor all of your system devices! • Agent: All of your Bosch IP cameras and Encoders are considered agents. • MIB: Management Information Bases is a list of variables that the SNMP Server can monitor. Individual line items in a MIB file have OIDs or Object Identifiers. • Trap: Asynchronous notification from agent to manager which includes an OID for identifying the type of trap.
Enabling SNMP on IP Devices • On all Bosch IP Encoders and Cameras SNMP can be enabled: • On the desired device select the “Network” menu and “Advanced” sub menu • Turn SNMP “On” • Enter the IP address of the BVMS Management Server
