SUP LEASH TYPES Quick release leash An attachment to coiled or straight leash Standalone leash which is worn on its own around the waist ATTACHMENT POINTS Used in: Whitewater paddling Racing Characteristics: Waist Doesn't get in the way as you move around the board Quick detachment from the board Short Attached to PFD or worn around the waist as a belt For: Whitewater river paddling Sits on the board No drag as it's out of the water Racing Coiled leash Used in: Racing Flat or moving water paddling Calf Characteristics: For: Doesn't get in the way as you move around the board Short Flatwater paddling Racing No drag as it's out of the water Sits on the board Straight leash Used in: Surfing Flat or moving water paddling Ankle Characteristics: For: Long (typically as long as the board itself) Drags in water if not tucked e.g., behind your back Flatwater paddling Surfing www.paddleboardtips.com
