Patient groups’ topics and structure Dr Katie Coleman, Vice Chair 20 June 13
Objectives for the discussion • Review what the patient groups like now • Share the CCGs thoughts about how future groups could be run • Discuss how you would like the patient groups to be run
How are the groups run at present? • Four groups a year, locality and pan Islington • Locality groups organised by practice managers and chaired by a GP from the locality • Pan Islington groups organised by the CCG engagement officer and chaired by the lead for PPP • Minutes sent to every practice in Islington, then sent to members of the practices PPG
We feel that in the future they could be Patient led This means: • Chaired by patients • Administered by patients • The topics set by patients (with Clinical Commissioning Group and practice support).
Administrative processes You have told us: • ‘I don’t always get the minutes’ • ‘ I don’t always know when the meetings are’ • To let us know how this is currently working please fill in the q&a survey handed out to you when you arrived.
Format You have told us: • You prefer the locality meetings to the Pan • Presentations are too lengthy and didactic • You don’t get enough chance to talk about the things which matter to you: currently set up by practice managers and ICCG staff.
Structure and topics • What do you want to talk about and ask us? • Health information: keeping fit, screening programmes • Access and services: are they good / bad, where have you had an experience which should not have happened, what services do you think we need • How NHS systems are now working: how does the new system work, problems, confusion or any improvements.
Who hears what you say • Everything you say goes to the Islington CCG governing body • Directors and Clinical Leads • Our partners • Currently making sure the people we feedback to are at a high enough level within the organisation • Hopefully, you feedback to your practice reference group.
Please discuss: Structure and topics • How do you want it look: • Pan or locality? • Would you like to Chair? What support would you need to do this. • What would the ideal format look like? • How would you like to receive communications? • What do you want to talk about and ask us? • Health information • Access and services • NHS new system
