What can we observe??? • Positioning of furniture. Are staff having to reach in a way that will cause injury? • Lighting. Is the lighting correct for the conditions and the type of work. Apart from the obvious chance of vision impairment, bad lighting can cause injury if workers collide with inanimate objects or even each other • Positioning of computer screens and related equipment is also very important. Workers can develop neck pain and other symptoms if they are trying to hold their heads at an unnatural angle • Clutter around the workplace. Are the areas of movement free from clutter, which could create a tripping or collision hazard • Are there other hazards such as incorrect or inadequate labeling? • These are just a few basic considerations, but a competent ergonomic assessment will take a comprehensive look at all aspects of a workplace
