WHY ARE YOU IN THIS CLASS?
Class Rules • Follow directions the first time they are given. • Be prepared and ON TIME for class. • Pay attention, listen, and be ready to respond/participate during all class activities. • Be respectful and kind towards others (e.g.: respect others' opinions, offer assistance when it is needed, don’t interrupt, etc.). If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all! • Check your stereotypes at the door (negative statements about any culture, race, or lifestyle, including slang, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED)
Discipline Policy • Breaking any of the five rules (in any form) will result in one or more of the following disciplinary actions: • TEACHER DETENTION (10 minutes after school: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday- You have ONE WEEK to make up your detention from the day it is assigned) • PINK SLIP (referral to assistant principal) • GOLD SLIP (removed from classroom and sent to main office) • CALL/EMAIL HOME
Required Materials • pens/pencils • completed assigned homework
Hall Passes • bathroom passes will be given out sparingly • do not ask for a pass to another teacher, guidance, main office, etc.--- you may only go if you are called down or have a previously written pass • sign in/out whenever you leave the room
Absences/Late Assignments • Each day an assignment is late, 10 points will be taken off the grade (ex: an assignment that would be a 95 will become a 85) • Assignments handed in more than 4 days late are an automatic F (50%) • Late/absent assignments must be placed in the appropriate labeled box in the back of the classroom • You may NOT hand in late homework checks (unless you were absent) • If you get caught cutting, you may NOT make-up that work

Written Work • You will receive an automatic F (50%) for incomplete work • Write legibly!!! Typed work is preferred. • You must have the following on EVERY graded assignment or you will lose 1 grade: • Name • Date • Period • Assignment Name
Extra Help If your grades are suffering or you need extra help, please stop by AFTER school (any day BUT Wednesday)
Seniors • 40% tests (including essays and projects) • 30% quizzes (including minor writing assignments) • 20% homework/class participation • 10% journal/do-nows

4 Chances to Pass • HSPA: Round 1 • October 1-3, 2013 • AHSA: Round 1 • January 17-February 4, 2014 • HSPA: Round 2 • March 4-6, 2014 • AHSA: Round 2 • March 24-April 11, 2014
HSPA: Round 1 Regular: October 1-3, 2013 Make-Up: October 8-19, 2013 Persuasive Essay, Expository Essay, Reading Comprehension (Multiple Choice & Open-Ended Questions) Scores come back in December/January Need a 200 to pass If you pass, NO MORE TESTING!!! If you fail, MUST TAKE AHSA & HSPA
AHSA: Round 1 January 17-February 4, 2014 Persuasive Essay & Reading Comprehension (Open-Ended Questions ONLY) Scores come back, in mid-March (after HSPA: round 2) Need to pass both sections (Reading & Writing)
HSPA: Round 2 Regular: March 4-6, 2014 Make-Up: March 11-13, 2014 If you pass AHSA Round 1, HSPA scores don’t matter You need to pass EITHER HSPA or AHSA Scores come back in late May/early June
AHSA: Round 2 • March 24-April 11, 2014 • Scores come back mid-June (VERY CLOSE to graduation) • If you passed one part in January, you only have to take the part you failed • EX: If you pass the persuasive essay part, you only have to retake reading comprehension
Appeals • If you haven’t passed AHSA or HSPA by the beginning of June, we send in an appeal to the State • Samples of work • Explanation of your progress • Letter from counselor
AHSA: Round 3 June 16-27, 2014 If you haven’t passed by now, you will NOT graduate and you will have to take the test one last time If all else fails, you come back in September to do it all again.
