Special Layouts • Symmetrical Splits • Diamond Crossings • Scissors Cross over
Schedule of DimensionsPertaining to Special Layouts • Diamond crossing not to be flatter than 1 in 8.5. However, under special conditions 1 in 10 crossing can be permitted.
Diamond Crossings • Formed when two tracks cross each other • If same gauge – rhombus • If different gauge – parallelogram • If at right angle – square diamond • Right angle diamond to be avoided • Slips are laid to provide arrangement to divert vehicles from one track to another • Single slip • Double slip
Deficiency Of Diamond Crossing • While approaching the nose of obtuse crossing the wheel is not guided by check-rail for a certain length due to longer gap. • How to overcome : • Top level of check rail is raised by 25 mm • Flange way clearance is reduced from 44 mm to 41 mm (BG)
Scissors Cross–Over • To enable transfer of vehicles from one track to other and vice-versa • Provided where space does not permit provision of two separate cross overs • Consists of four pairs of switches. Six acute crossings, two obtuse crossings and check rails.
