  6. Goals • Increase awareness of asthma • Improve knowledge of asthma • Reduce absenteeism • Allows the RT to be a resource • Promotes the profession

  7. History • Successful in the early 90’s • Reached close to one million students • Over 10,000 schools • 600 RTs involved

  8. Why update Peak Performance now? • EPR III • Renewed interest • Ability to use electronic communication • Promotes our role in the eyes of future RTs

  9. Provides tools for: • School nurses • Teachers/administrators • Respiratory Therapists • Better asthma management • Public relations • Program survey

  10. Asthma Recognition Program • BOD charge two years ago • Meets the expectation of the CPT codes for asthma education • Allows for recognition of programs that fall in line with the standard of care • Will be available in late summer

  11. Asthma Certification Prep Course • Five cities in 2008 • Pass rates for RTs 67% • Prep course grads score 88% • Future direction?

  12. Aerosol Device Book • Extremely popular • In 2007 had 132,000 downloads • As of June 15th, there has been 55,000 downloads • It eclipses the number of RTs in the USA • Has been translated into Chinese

  13. Future Plans: • Version for Patients • Version for other healthcare professionals

  14. Web casts • No longer restricted to 100 seats • Can now accommodate 2,000 live seats • Allows those who need live interaction an opportunity to secure a seat

  15. Spirometry Drivers License • Physicians office based • Live training • On-line training • Testing on-line • 10 sessions (tracings) • Reviewed by expert panel • Certificate good for a year • Initial charge per person • Less for a renewal every year (only tracings submitted)
