LAST WEEK – June 7th UPCOMING EVENTS INVOCATION SPEAKER KESLER MENTORING CONNECTION MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Heavenly Father: Help us to forget our errors and blunders, for tomorrow is another day when we can begin anew. Help us to focus on what we can do and how we can apply our abilities to help others. Give us long-range goals to keep us from being frustrated by short-range failures. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen Everybody Needs A Friend July 3-7 - International Convention, San Antonio, Tx Aug. 2 – Thurs PM,Division Council Meeting, Host club - TBD Aug. 23-26 - Florida District Convention, Marco Island,FL ….especially young people. Youth today face many pressures that can lead them down the wrong path. Some are fortunate to have constant love and support from a stable family, but many are left more vulnerable to the pressures of growing up. KMC addresses these challenges through the recruitment, training and careful placement of mentors. Unfortunately, there is a critical shortage of volunteers in Northeast Florida. That is why we need your help. Become a mentor – read, tell stories, play games, go fishing, bake cookies, surf the net. As little as one hour a week can make a difference. Contact KMC at 9700 Phillips Hwy, Suite 103, Jacksonville, Fl, Ph. 224-2400, www.mentoringconnection.org INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION If you haven’t already done so, this is a reminder to make your hotel reservations for the Kiwanis International Convention before rooms are released and rates go up. You can secure your hotel reservations online anytime at www.the-meeting-connection.com by clicking the Kiwanis Housing Link, or call The Meeting Connection at 1-800-398-2568 between 9:00am – 4:30 p m. Those in attendance where president-elect, Neil Powell; secretary, Jay Ambler; board of directors member, Dan Kuchta; and past-president, Carl Krouch. Our club had the most amount of leaders present at this weekend's training, and a special thanks goes out to Dan and Carl for so generously volunteering their time to be there to make our club better. The training outlined the duties and responsibilities for the incoming president and secretary, as well as several other critical topics: the duties of Kiwanis' eight standing committees, how to grow membership, successful budget planning, expanding our local K-family, and making an increased call to service projects. To qualify as a 2006-2007 Distinguished Member, a Kiwanian must: . Recruit at least two new members . Participate in two service projects . Attend both the midwinter and district convention (or their equivalent) If you know someone who deserves this recognition, submit a nomination by the Oct 15, 2007 deadline. Distinguished members will receive a lapel pin at the 2008 Kiwanis International Convention in Orlando, FL. More information at www.kiwanis.org and search for the keywords “distingushed member”.
