Cut-Score Changes • Cut scores were raised for all MATH courses (making it more rigorous/difficult to place into a specific course) and to bring the cut-score more in line with IVYTech (who uses the same Compass Placement Test). • Resulting in a shift of 400 students (4.6%) at each placement level to a lower course, out of 8,640 students tested from Aug 2008 to Aug 2009.
The 11 Placement Messages See Math Placement Chart above – based on the placement domain, and score in that domain, an advisor gets 1 of 11 messages for that student. Students are given an intermediate algebra question, depending on the response being correct or not, the test starts adapting itself to the test-taker. Usually in less than 20 questions, the student ends in one of the algebra domains: MA601 Pre-Algebra Questions MA602 Algebra I and Algebra II Questions MA603 College Algebra Questions MA604 Trigonometry Questions There are no calculus questions (domain) on the placement test.
