The XROOTD bundlevmss_1.8 Available! Fabrizio Furano
It’s out! Xrootd bundle vmss_1.8 • Since today the new version vmss_1.8 of the xrd-installer bundle is available • Main items: • The ApMon proliferation issue • Xrd3cp from Andreas • Xrootd base : 20100510-1509 • Used also in the ALICE CAF
The ApMon proliferation Xrootd bundle vmss_1.8 • Under some circumstances the ApMon processes were not detected correctly and were started again and again • Result: a lot of them • Fixed now, in the ApMon-related scripts • Remember to kill them manually before restarting after the upgrade
Xrd3cp Xrootd bundle vmss_1.8 A new plugin was added: xrootd-ftsofs Third party ‘file push’ The tests at CERN and Legnaro were successful Several improvements can be foreseen (mainly performance)
Xrootd base Xrootd bundle vmss_1.8 • Like always, a huge number of commits • And a very long test phase • A few minor bugs in XrdClient • Xrdcp is able to detect additional failure modes and act correctly • Enhanced fault tolerance (the Legnaro problem) • In the case of flaky dataservers going in/out the redirector’s response can be wrong • Now the client copes better with that • Moreover, they fixed the flaky dataserver (name resolution issues?)
How to upgrade Xrootd bundle vmss_1.8 • The good old instructions are always valid • In the Alien HowTos • http://alien2.cern.ch/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=33&Itemid=79 • Backup system.cnf per each server • Install the new bundle in a separate directory • Copy system.cnf into the new one and check it! • Stop the old one • KILL the stale ApMon processes • Start the new one
