Recent Activities • August is for Aerospace • AIAA DE Section co-hosted Representative Dr. Andy Harris (MD-1) • Issues of defense spending, federal deficit, affordable healthcare act, and future of human spaceflight were discussed • Rep. Harris welcomed the opportunity to hear from some constituents on these issues and was interested in gaining greater understanding on the need for human space exploration versus continued robotic missions

Region I Public Policy Colloquium Whether a long time member or someone new to the Institute, this event will offer unique perspectives and insights on our government, AIAA, and the growing importance of public policy for our industry. Topics will include AIAA Public Policy efforts, Congressional Visits Day (CVD), August is for Aerospace (A4A), Key Issues development, and section, region, and national opportunities for public policy engagement. Saturday, October 20th, 2012 ATK Missile Defense & Controls Division (55 Thiokol Rd., Elkton, MD) 9:00AM to 3:00PM (EDT) Lunch will be provided We will be offering webex and telecon information for those unable to attend in person!! National Chemistry Week 2012 • A National Chemistry Week children’s outreach event will be held on Saturday, November 3 • This event will include an Alka-SeltzerTM rocket activity organized by the AIAA Delaware Section • Information on events, and ways for you to volunteer, will be provided in our next newsletter

STEM and BEYOND Night • October 9, 2012 The John Carroll School, Bel Air, MD 6-8pm • STEM and BEYOND Night is a workshop for 4th-6th grade students with hands on activities to increase interest in science and math • AIAA – Delaware section will be hosting an Alka-Seltzer rocket experiment • If interested in volunteering for the event, please contact Breanne Wooten
