Optical property and biological use of gold nanocubes X.Wu Department of Physics, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China All kinds of gold nanoparticles and their optical properties • Au-nanoshell • Au-nanorod • Au-nanocage • Au-nanocube • The extinction spectra of gold nanoparticles in aqueous solution with the concentration of 0.1 nM • The emission spectra of gold nanoparticles and rhodamine B under SPE of 405 nm(left) and under TPE of 800 nm(right) Stage for Application of Gold Nanocubes Use as photo-luminescence agents: Use as photo-thermal-therapy agents: • PL images of gold nanocubes in QGY cells (a) and 293T cells (b) with SPE of 488 nm. Detection channel: 505-550 nm. Left: PL image; middle: DIC image; Right: merged image. • Cell damaging detection with PI in nanocube loaded cells. PI detection was in 580-640m channel, excited by 488 nm laser. (a) The nanocube loaded QGY cells have been irradiated by the 532 nm laser for 15 min with the power density of 4 W/cm2. (b) The nanocube loaded QGY cells without irradiation. • Conclusion • Gold nanocubes have particular high measured quantum efficiency among gold nanoparticle which is (4.2±0.8)%. Approximately, 100 times higher than gold nanorods and 8 orders of magnitude higher than the emission from the bulk metal surface. • Gold nanocubes are a novel class of optically active dual imaging/therapy agents due to their high photo-luminescence yield and strong absorption of visible light. • References • [1] A.
