Induction Rehearsal: What to Wear • Gentlemen: • Dark dress pants. No khakis. • A button down, “oxford-style” shirt • A tie (bow tie or necktie) • Dress shoes • Jacket is optional, unless you are an Officer or a Stage Participant • Ladies: • Knee-length (TO-THE-KNEE!) Skirt or Dress in a dark color. • An appropriate blouse. Not sheer; not low-neckline. • All blouses & dresses MUST have sleeves, OR be topped with a cardigan or jacket. • Dress shoes: Low pumps or Flats. NO flip-flops, sandals. No Peeptoes. • Dress pants/slacks are appropriate in black or dark blue. • Please dress as though you were going to an Interview. Many members of the audience may be your • future business colleagues. Dress to provide the appropriate impression!
Induction Rehearsal: What to DO & When to arrive • If you are an INDUCTEE: • Arrive at the Auditorium no later than 6:30pm. • Sign-in with the NHS in the Lobby of the Auditorium. • Go to your assigned seat in the Center Back of the Auditorium (Labelled with an INDEX card). • Turn your cell phone OFF (We are NOT joking.) • Your belongings are your own responsibility, so we recommend NOT bringing purses or backpacks (you won’t need them that night!)

Induction Rehearsal: What to DO & When to arrive • If you are a Member: • Arrive at your assigned location ON TIME. • Sign-in with the NHS Members at the Member check in Table (in the Cafeteria) • Report to your Duty Post • OR report to your assigned position in line, inside the cafeteria. • TURN OFF YOUR PHONES– the audience will already be coming in.
Induction Rehearsal: What to DO & When to arrive • If you are part of the Audience: • Communicate this with your Friends & Family!!! • Please arrive between 6:30-6:45; we must close the doors at 7pm. • Please take a Program from one of the NHS Members • Please sit in the Center Front of the Auditorium, directly in front of the stage. • Bathrooms are located in the Auditorium Lobby on the left & right. • Please Silence all Phones!
Induction Rehearsal: The actual Ceremony Process • At 6:55 pm, the NHS members in the Lobby will close the doors & join the other Members in the Cafeteria. • The NHS Members will be lined up alphabetically in two rows. • They will proceed out of the cafeteria along the side of the auditorium, and enter from the lobby.
Induction Rehearsal: The actual Ceremony Process • The rows will split to enter the left and right doors, and proceed down the aisles, past the new Inductees. • The NHS Members will take seats on the left and right of the stage. • The NHS president will call everyone to order.
Induction Rehearsal: The actual Ceremony Process • The NHS president will open with an introduction. • Then, the NHS V-P goes to the podium, reads the scholarship paragraph, and then, from the lighted candle, lights the first small candle on the table. • As VP sits down, the Exec. Council Member walks to the podium, reads the leadership paragraph, and then lights the 2nd small candle on the table.
Induction Rehearsal: The actual Ceremony Process • As ExCM sits down, the Sergreant-at-Arms walks to the podium, reads the service paragraph, and then lights the 3rd small candle on the table. • As SaAsits down, the other ExCMwalks to the podium, reads the character paragraph, and then lights the 4th small candle on the table. • As the last ExCM sits down, the Secretary & 2 NHS members move to the table with certificates, membership cards, and signature book.
Induction Rehearsal: The actual Ceremony Process • At the same time, the Usher moves to the front row of chairs to usher students to their seats. • The first Stage Participant walks to the podium, reads the paragraph explaining the tapping, and the first set of names. • Officers & Stage Participants: we will be going over this in detail AFTER the main body of students have been dismissed. Please remain.
Induction Rehearsal: The actual Ceremony Process • When a Inductee Name is read: • The Inductee should stand and exit their row and proceed down the left or right aisle. • Inductees will be seated alphabetically– with an indication of LEFT OR RIGHT (so you will know what to do). • A NHS Member will meet them halfway up the aisle, and escort them to the steps of the stage. • The Inductee will then proceed to the table, where they will be given a charm by the NHS Secretary, and will sign the membership registration & receive their certificate folder. • Then the Inductee will be escorted to their seat on the stage by the Usher. • The entire row remains standing UNTIL it is full.
Induction Rehearsal: The actual Ceremony Process • When all the Inductees have been tapped, and proceeded to the stage: • The NHS President will go to the podium. • The Stage Participants will light their candles, and then the candle of the person next to them. • Until all the candles are lit. • (After lighting the inductees’ candles, speakers return to their seats and carefully blow out their candles. ) • The President then reads the membership pledge, congratulates new members, and invites guests to the reception in the cafeteria. • Proceed to the Cafeteria for the Reception.
Induction Rehearsal: Questions & Answers • Raise your Hand, so we can see you. • A few answers to FAQs: • If you have to ask whether it is appropriate dress, it isn’t! • We cannot watch/keep your purse, backpack, cellphone, et cetera, for you. • This is a long and serious ceremony, so small children will not have much fun during it. • Yes, we will pull you out of the ceremony if you are not dressed appropriately. • You really do need to have your cell phone off. • We recommend parking by the Freshman Academy, but that fills up FAST. Secondary parking can be found in front of the school & the Senior Gym lot.
