  1. Status report from Swiss labs Ciro Pistillo LHEP Bern University Opera Emulsion Workshop Nagoya December 7 / 9

  2. Composition of Bern group POSTDOCS DIPLOMA STUDENTS http://www.lhep.unibe.ch/

  3. Status of the scanning lab (Be) • 3 microscopes fully operative • 1 being assembled (ready for scanning by Feb.2007) All the microscopes are equipped with the automatic plate changer We are planning a restyling of our lab in order to allocate more space for the humidified area (fourth microscope, emulsion storage) This is foreseen for the beginning of January and should last a couple of weeks

  4. Status of the scanning lab (Ne) • 1 microscope fully operative equipped with the automatic plate changer

  5. Manpower for scanning (Be) • 3 postdocs (-> up to the end of the exp) • 2 PhD students (2007 - 2011) • 1 additional PhD student from ETH Zurich • Several students (4 at the moment, a new one is about to join us) we will probably have additional positions but we think that with the present people we can guarantee the running of the microscopes for the standard scanning activities

  6. Manpower for scanning (Ne) • 1 postdoc • 1 PhD student • 1 student (eventually)

  7. Ongoing activities • Peanut analysis (reported at the last GM) • Development of tools for precision measurements (see Jonas’ talk) • R&D on scanning improvements • Test of the CS to brick connection and of the full online procedure with real OPERA bricks (just started, no data available yet) • Peanut and vertex brick scanning for DB-driven validation • Electrons: draft on pion/electron discrimination is going to be circulated. Energy measurement still in progress. BERN NEUCHATEL

  8. Future plans • Test CS to brick connection and full scanning procedure with real OPERA brick (Be+Ne) • continue pion-muon separation? (Be) • continue pion electron discrimination? (Ne) • concentrate on electron analysis (Be+Ne) • libACQ - interactive scanning framework with human checks (Be)
