What is it?Time efficient/user-friendly tool forself-assessment, peer assessment,or instructor assessment of personal documentation that is maintained ona design project.
What are the benefits?* Self reporting/rating of six best entries* Global rating of logbooks in four dimensions* Identification of best practices to sustain* Creation of action plans for improvement * Activity completion within 20 minutes by students and within 10 minutes by faculty
Why I got started?I’ve always enjoyed reading and discussing meaning that students are able to construct during project learning as well as affect towards peers/customers/project challenges. Unfortunately, I found that writing out individualized logbook messages to my capstone design students was very time-consuming and frequently repetitive.
How do you implement it?Students complete the form and paste it in their personal logbook every month. I collect logbooks on different days for different teams, turning these around overnight. My ratings and my own 1-2 sentence SII on the logbook appear right next to the student’s own assessments. Return of the logbook often leads to just-in-time mentoring moments.
What resources are on display?* Handout on logbook best practices* Examples of student logbooks as well as related final project reports* Several cycles of logbook assessment forms completed by students* Several cycles of faculty responses to logbooks and assessment forms
