Recommendations • From these test results there are not conclusive recommendations on the number of channels per control PC. However reference values for the channel switch ON/OFF and for a simple FSM hierarchy are provided. • TRIVIAL EXERCICE : taking into account the present test results and with the help of an extrapolating exercise, to switch ON 384 HV channels (2 complete CAEN crate on the same OPC server with 500 ms of refresh time), with a ramping time of 40 s (2KV/50V/s), about 50 s would be requested for the complete HV operation. In this assumption (realistic for MWPC or gaseous detectors) only the 20% of the time is due to the OPC+FSM performance. • ERROR HANDLING: If the possible severe alarm conditions for few tens of channels produced at the same time (overcurrent, overvoltage….) are protected at the level of the HV boards, then the notification to the FSM within 2 s for the error handling can be deduced from fig. 1.
