What next • Working party of keen and interested leaders • Very regular meetings over one term • Sort of used the QCA new curriculum activities • Followed by extra meetings for Heads of Departments
What did we want to do Improve KS4 gold standard with English and Maths Stretch and challenge higher attaining learners Develop students personal learning and thinking skills Enthuse students so they are committed to life long learning Teach our own subjects
General picture of the new curriculum • Two year key stage 3 in En Ma Sc • Opportunity for three year Key stage 4 if needed • Early entry for middle sets in Maths etc • Introduce learning to learn in year 7 • Introduce Drama in year 7 and 8 • Copy South Hunsley and move PSE into whole day activities

Example of Deep Learning Day activities Year 7Ma/PE Students are encouraged to use Mathematics to score, record and analyse tactics and performance put in a ‘Mini Olympics’ context. Year 8 Kenya Gg/Te Students develop an understanding of third world life by building shanty towns out of cardboard in our games shed and have to carry water across the field with limited resources Year 9 VE day Food tech/History Pupils cook food with rationing and have street party
How we organise DLD • Senior team agreed to 14 !! • Time allocation at KS3 similar to lesson allocation • Trips and visits focused on these days • PSE team or curriculum team plan the activities • A member of the leadership team has coordinates staffing and rooms
Reflections • Teachers are brilliantly imaginative • Kids respond well ( high attendance!) • Needs tight organisation on staffing resources and rooms • Cuts down on disruption by trips and visits • Brilliant CPD for staff • Strong emphasis on PLTs but still need to consider progression
