Trail of tears. The US government passed a law in 1830 called the Indian Removal act. Most Cherokee had to walk the whole way. More than 15,000 Cherokee Indians were removed by the US Army. The US government gave them land in Oklahoma.

  2. The US government passed a law in 1830 called the Indian Removal act. • Most Cherokee had to walk the whole way. • More than 15,000 Cherokee Indians were removed by the US Army.

  3. The US government gave them land in Oklahoma. • Along the trail 4,ooo died because of diseases , starvation and lack of water , and exposure. • In 1730 Cherokee Leaders visit England

  4. Many Cherokee’s cried that’s why this journey is called the “trail of tears.” • This was a very sad time in American history. In 1830 the Indian Removal Act is passed.

  5. President Andrew Jackson ignored the Supreme Court ruling. • In 1838 the Cherokee Indians became the fifth major tribe to experience forced relocation to Indians Territory. • Most Indians did not want to leave there land.
