Introduction • Next generation in online mapping • Uses their patented relevancy algorithm to enable smart and intuitive searching • Allows the user to search for just about anything • Type in the name of a business or point of interest, an address, or a city and the map will instantly pop up • Viewed in a variety of formats • Map • Satellite • Terrain • Street View • Traffic • Easily manipulated through mouse, scroll or keystrokes. • The street names and road outlines are displayed with varying detail depending on the zoom. Directions are very clear, and the route is highlighted on the map. • Alternative and reverse directions available

  3. Directions to a Specific Location • Open an internet browser • Type “google.com” in the navigation bar at the top of the window • Click on “Maps” at the top of the screen.

  4. Directions to a Specific Location • Click on the “Get Directions” link under the search window. • Two new windows will appear. In the first window type in your starting point by address, zip code, or Place Name. ex. UMBC. In the second window type in your final destination by: address, zip code, or Place Name ex. UMCP • Click the Get Directions button, or hit enter.

  5. The route will be highlighted in blue on the map, and the directions will be listed to the left. If multiple place names for your given starting point or destination exist, choices will appear in a list under the heading Do you mean.

  6. Directions to a Specific Location • Clicking on the appropriate place will automatically give you the directions. • To avoid highways check the Avoid Highways box

Glossary • Map- is the map-book style map viewing format. • Satellite- map is displayed as a real picture taken form a satellite; zoom can be limited at times. • Terrain- map is displayed highlighting mountains, rivers, lakes, and relative vegetation. • Traffic - only available for metropolitan areas map is displayed with the particular traffic patterns for the area. Heavy traffic areas are highlighted in red. • Street View- only available for select metropolitan areas shows the vantage point of a person standing on the selected street
