Es uno de los cinco actos de adorar a Dios. • Introduction. What do we think of the service of singing hymns? How important is it? It is one of the five acts of worshipping God.

  5. Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • Pablo nombra el instrumento: “en vuestros corazones”. Por eso, usamos el instrumento escogido por Dios – el corazón. • Paul names the instrument: “in your hearts.” Therefore, we use the instrument chosen by God – the heart.

La música enfatiza y realza (hace resaltar) las palabras. • Why sing? We sing WORDS. With music they praise and edify in a special way. Music empha-sizes and enhances the words.

El vino pervierte la mente pero el Espíritu la ilumina. ¿Cómo canta la persona tomada? • Not full of wine, but of the Spirit. Wine perverts the mind but the Spirit illuminates it. How does a person that is drinking sing?

Es imposible estar lleno del Espíritu si la palabra de Cristo no habita abundantemente en nosotros. • II. Col. 3:16. This text is parallel with Eph. 5:19. It is impossible to be filled with the Spirit if the word of Christ does not dwell abundantly in us.

Salmo 100:2, “Servid al SEÑOR con alegría; venid ante El con cánticos de júbilo”. • III. To praise God. One of the principal purposes of singing is to praise God. Ps. 100:2, “Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.”

El meditar sobre cuántas cosas Dios ha hecho por nosotros produce el deseo de cantar loores a su nombre y darle gracias. • IV. GIVE THANKS TO GOD. To meditate on how much God has done for us produces the desire to sing praises to His name and give Him thanks.

I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”

Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • Siempre que lleguemos a este lugar para adorar a Dios, debemos llegar con el corazón lleno de gratitud y luego con alegría cantar los himnos. • Every time we arrive at this place to worship God we should come with our heart full of gratitud and then with joy sing the hymns.

Como a medianoche, Pablo y Silas estaban orando y cantando himnos a Dios”. • Acts 16:24, 25, “he put them (Paul and Silas) into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God.”

Mat. 26:30, después de instituir la cena del Señor y poquito antes de su experiencia en Getsemaní, “Y cuando hubieron cantado el himno, salieron al monte de los Olivos”. • Jesus Himself. Matt. 26:30, after instituting the Lord’s Supper and just before His experience in Gethsemani, “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.”

Sal. 51:14, siendo perdonado, “con regocijo cantará mi lengua tu justicia”. • On receiving the pardon of God we should rejoice and express our gratitude in song. Ps. 51:14 being forgiven, “my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.”

SING FROM THE HEART. Ps. 138:1, “I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You.”

Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • Juan 4:24, “adorar en espíritu y en verdad”; el culto debe ser bíblico (según la verdad) y debe ser “en espíritu” (de corazón). • John 4:24, “worship in spirit and in truth”; worship should be Scriptural (according to the truth) and should be “in spirit” (from the heart).

Mat. 15:8, “Este pueblo me honra de labios, pero su corazón está lejos de mí”. • We should pronounce every word of the hymn with sincerity. Matt. 15:8, “'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.”

  31. Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • Es posible cantar himnos sin adorar. Por ejemplo, cantar un himno muy conocido de memoria… ¡con los labios, sin activar el corazón! • It is possible to sing hymns without worshipping. For example, sing a well known hymn from memory… with the lips, without activating the heart!

La mente puede estar distraída (alguien entrando, saliendo), lo que pasó ayer, etc • We can sing a hymn without thinking of what we are saying. The mind can be distracted (someone entering, leaving), what happened yesterday, etc.

La mente puede estar distraída (alguien entrando, saliendo), lo que pasó ayer, etc • We can sing a hymn without thinking of what we are saying. The mind can be distracted (someone entering, leaving), what happened yesterday, etc.

Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • “Feliz cantando alegre, yo vivo siempre aquí, Si El cuida de las aves, cuidará también de mí…” y seguir con los mismos afanes que producen úlceras y migrañas. Pero es mandamiento cantar! • “I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me,” and continue with same worries that produce ulcers and migraines. But must sing

Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • “Da la luz”… “Grato es decir la historia”… ¿De veras? ¿Nos gusta enseñar a otros? ¿A quién estamos enseñando? ¿Cuándo? • “Send the light”… “I love to tell the story.” Really? We like to teach others? Whom are we teaching? When?

Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • “Salvador a ti me rindo”… ¿De veras? ¿Dónde está la prueba? ¿En la ofrenda? ¿La asistencia domingo a las 5, el miércoles? ¿Puntualmente? • “All to Jesus I surrender”… Really? Where is the proof? In the contribution? In attendance Sunday at 5, Wednesday? Punctually?

  37. Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • “Sagrado es el amor que nos ha unido aquí” – y después del servicio, seguir criticando a los otros miembros.. Domingo que viene, cantarlo otra vez. • “Blest be the tie that binds”– and after services continue criticizing the other members. Next Sunday sing it again.

  38. Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • VI. ESTUDIAR LOS CANTOS. No debemos cantar lo que no entendemos, ni creemos, ni enseñamos. Por eso, debemos estudiar los himnos • VI. STUDY THE HYMNS. We should not sing what we do not understand, nor believe, nor teach. Therefore, we should study the hymns.

  39. Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • Himnos son poesía. Son poemas. Hay lenguaje figurado. Sal. 51:5 es un salmo con lenguaje muy complicado. “En maldad he sido formado…” • Hymns are poetry. They are poems. They use figurative language. Ps. 51:5 is a psalm with very complicated language. “I was brought forth in iniquity…”

Orar o cantar con el espíritu significa orar o cantar en lengua, y orar o cantar con el entendimiento es con interpretación. N0 hay edificación si no hay entendimiento. • 1 Cor. 14:15, 16. Pray or sing with the spirit means pray or sing in a tongue, and pray or sing with the understanding means with interpretation. There is no edification if there is no understanding.

El DIRECTOR DE CANTOS debe escoger himnos con cuidado, estudiarlos para cantarlos correctamente, la entonación, el tiempo, no demasiado alto, no demasiado bajo. • VII. THE SONG LEADER should choose hymns carefully, study them to sing them correctly, the pitch, time, not too high, not too low.

Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • El DIRIGE - la iglesia sigue, en este acto de culto, sea entonación correcta/incorrecta, sea tiempo correcto/incorrect, demasiado alto/bajo, etc. • HE DIRECTS – the church follows, in this act of worship, if pitch is correct/incorrect, if time is correct/incorrect, too high/low, etc.

  43. Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • “Pero eso no importa”. ¿Lo que hacemos para la gloria de Dios? Decir que Dios acepta cualquier servicio mediocre, descuidado, sin preparación, equivale a decir que Dios acepta sobrantes. • “But that doesn’t matter.” What we do for the glory of God? To say that God accepts any kind of service, mediocre, neglectful, without prepara-tion, is to say that God accepts left-overs.

Llegar, a tiempo, agradecido con Dios, listos para adorar en espíritu y verdad. • VIII. THE CONGREGATION SHOULD BE PREPARED TO SING WELL. Not stay up late Sat. night. Attend, on time, grateful to God, ready to worship in spirit and truth.

Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • Estar seguros que todos los niños canten y tengan Biblias, busquen textos durante el sermón y escuchar.No dormir, ni dibujar, ni jugar. • Be sure that all the children sing and have Bibles to look up texts during the sermon and listen. Not sleep, not draw, not play.

  46. Cantar: Alabar a Dios, Edificar a Otros Sing: Praise God, Edify Others • La acústica aquí es buena (con cielo catedral se oye solamente a sí mismo), pero cuando hay pocos deben juntarse más. Ayuda mucho. • The acoustics here are good (with cathedral ceiling, can only hear yourself), but when there are few we need to get closer together. It helps greatly.

Sant. 5:13, “¿Está alguno alegre? ¡Que cante salmos!” ¿Qué cantamos cuando alegres? • Conclusion. We sing because we are a happy people. James 5:13, “Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.” What do we sing when we are happy?
