What? • Eleanor Roosevelt supported equal opportunities for African Americans and Women. • She was the first chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights Commission. • She visited relief projects and reported progress back to her husband. • She was an advocate for the rights of the poor and impoverished.
When? • In 1925, Eleanor started Val-Kill shop to give jobs to people in the community. • She became the First Lady in 1933. • She visited U.S. troops in Europe and the South Pacific in 1942 and 1943 • In 1952, Eleanor went to Israel to meet with leaders of different countries.

Why? Roosevelt stood up for her beliefs. She fought for the rights of many. She worked for world peace. She never quit, because she saw there were many things for her to do. She was voted “America’s Most Admired Woman” many times.
Accomplishments • The United Nations, an organization Roosevelt helped to found, continues to work peace, helping people in trouble, and education. • Americans honored her by putting her picture on a postage stamp.
