BASIC SKI TEAM INFO - • Club Team under the Sport Club Office • Compete in the Rocky Mountain Conference of USCSA • Five Race Weekends, then Regionals and Nationals (must qualify) • Compete in both SL and GS races
ARMSTRONG SCHOLARSHIP • “Will be awarded at the end of the season to one CSU Ski Team member who consistently demonstrates excellence as a student, athlete, teammate, and member of the CSU community.” • Major Considerations: Academics & Skiing • Special Considerations: Team Involvement & Consistency/Improvement • Minimum 2.75 GPA • Selection process: Officers nominate up to 3 individuals each to be considered; 3 finalists chosen, recipient voted on and presented to Phil Armstrong
RACE DATES - • Five Race Weekends **based on last year, not official** • Jan. 18th -19th - Winter Park • Jan. 25th - 26th - Crested Butte • Feb. 1st - 2nd - Mt. Hogadon • Feb. 8th - 9th - Telluride • Feb. 15th - 16th - Powderhorn Based on qualifying • Regionals- TBD (Feb. 19 - 23) • Nationals- TBD (Mar. 9- 13)
TRAINING • Dryland Training: Soccer/Volleyball, Team Run/Hikes, Climbing Night, “Real Dryland”, Personalized Strength Programs • On Snow Training • Preseason Inter-conference training at Eldora. • Morning, Afternoon and Night Training during the spring semester with CU Boulder. • Get the Ikon Pass!!!!
MASTERS CONNECTION -Alum and scholarship funder Phil Armstrong is an active member internationally…and he’s fast - Possibility of “Warm Up” GS or SL Masters Race with Colorado School of Mines in December - Availability of Speed Events: SG & DH before/after CSU season - Always welcome to “drop in” with Masters training group on Thursdays/Fridays and select weekends; they take VIDEO - Major avenue for equipment
ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS • Compete in all races • Required equipment (inclu. FIS approved helmet) • Complete five hours of community service • Christmas tree raising at First Lutheran • Attend fundraising event (Fine for missing is $40) -Ragnar Relay Race (September 14th) • Attend team functions (team dinners/meetings) • Maintain a 2.0 GPA + 12 credits minimum in fall and spring
NEW THIS YEAR • Every athlete will sleep in a real bed; sharing with a maximum of 1 other person • At least one dinner/weekend will be actually cooked and lead by a team member • SYNC for jackets, shorts, pants, suits, gear, etc. • More $ spent on food, lodging, and transportation • Fun team events: i.e. night sledding/tubing at Winter Park • 2+ SUVs + 1 Pickup Preference • Possible “Late Car” on Friday afternoons
DUES • $1000-$1200 per member • Dependent on budgeting and how many people join • Can be paid in increments • First round of dues in the allotment of $400 due October 4th
IMPORTANT DATES • August 30th- Deadline for Fundraiser event signup • Sept. 14th - Reebok Ragnar Relay @ New Belgium Brewing Co. Fundraiser • Oct. 4th- First round of dues in the allotment of $400 • Early November- Community Service Event with Realities for Children • Nov. 22 (ish) - Second round of dues = $350 • December 7 - Mandatory Team Freeskiing (SkiSU bus day) • December 13 (ish) - Third round of dues = remaining amount
