4. Assessment Prompts • Summarize their experience with drama. • Tell what Hansberry’s quotations reveal about her. • Provide information about Hansberry’s life and tell how it relates to her quotations.

5. Activating Strategy Give students Handout # 1—“The Play’s the Thing.” Give them 3 minutes to write down as many answers as they can. At the end of minutes, each student is to find a partner and using Numbered Heads, share his/her response. At the end of the 5 minutes, they find another pair and again choose a recorder and reporter. After 5 minutes, each “quartet” shares with the whole class and they discuss their answers. Ask them to indicate whether the term “play” has a positive or negative connotation for them and why.

6. A Raisin in the Sun“The Play’s the Thing” Write your answers to the following questions. 1, How many plays have you seen/read? 2 List all the plays you have heard of. 3 What literary elements must a piece of writing contain in order to be considered a play? 4. What different types of plays have you heard of ? (Hint: comedy,…)

7. You have 3 minutes to write your answers to as many questions as you can on “The Play’s the Thing.” At the end of 3 minutes, find a partner and share your answers. One of you needs to record your shared answers and one needs to be the reporter.

8. At the end of 5 minutes find another pair and again choose a recorder and reporter.
