  1. How Can I Break Apart Facts?

  2. Distributive Property What does it mean to distribute something? The Distributive Property shows that you can break apart facts to find the product.

  3. Let’s pretend you got REALLY stuck remembering what 7 X 8 is…what could you do using the Distributive Property? Well if you knew what 5 x 8 was, you could do that first. 5 x 8 = 40 So if I already did 5 groups of 8, how many more groups do I need to add in order to have 7 groups of 8? 2 So I had 40, then I had 16. How many did I have all together? What does 2 groups of 8 equal? 16 40 + 16 = 56 XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX 56, so 7 x 8 = 56 XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX

  4. How could you use the distributive property for 8 x 6? 5 x 6 is easy, let’s start with that. 5 x 6 = 30. How many more groups of 6 do I need? I already did 5… There were 8 total groups and I already did 5, so I need 3 more groups of 6. 3 x 6 = 18 I had 5 groups of 6, which equals 30. Then I had 3 groups of 6 which equals 18. How much do all 8 groups equal together? XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX 30 + 18 = 48, so 8 x 6 = 48
