Metropole Ruhr |Konzept Ruhr – Sustainable urban and regional development The Konzept Ruhr is a joint strategy of the towns, cities and districts of the Metropole Ruhr covering sustainable urban and regional development in the coming decade. Metropole Ruhr | Konzept Ruhr – Sustainable urban and regional development • The “ruhrbasics“ form the basis for the joint approach • Five subject areas will determine the development of the Metropole Ruhr in the next decade: ruhrlines, ruhrcities, ruhrexcellence, ruhrinvest and ruhrevent . • Each theme is conceived in the regional context, each project has a regional and local effect. • The ruhrbasics offer orientation for the approximately 350 projects. • Konzept Ruhr is advanced regularly with regard to its strategy and its projects. Metropole Ruhr |Wandel als Chance – Change as an opportunity In 2008, 17 towns and 4 districts of the Metropole Ruhr joined up with the district of Steinfurt to develop a strategy for dealing with the anticipated end of coal mining by 2018: Change as an opportunity Content Framework conditions for the change in the municipalities/sub-regions Principles of joint action Areas of action for a co-ordinated strategy for all stakeholders Specific, local and regionally-oriented projects Three central areas of action • Reuse + develop: The sites of the change • Renew + invent: The technological transition • Promote + support: The educational region Ruhr 2018 Change as an opportunity and its projects aim to work actively to preempt the phase after the end of coal mining for the Metropole Ruhr and the district of Steinfurt. Metropole Ruhr |Bildungsregion Ruhr 2018 – Educational region Ruhr 2018 Using the Wandelals Chance project the participating towns have agreed the “Bildungsregion Ruhr 2018“ – Educational region Ruhr 2018 – strategy Objectives Significant raising of educational standard in the Metropole Ruhr by 2018 (end of coal mining in Germany) Incorporation of all areas of education (from infant learning to schools, universities, vocational training and further education, including life-long learning) Announcement of municipal and regional courses of action for the entire Metropole Ruhr First step: “Vorstudie für den Bildungsbericht Ruhr“ (2009) – draft study for the Ruhr educational report – in which all noteworthy educational establishments in the Metropole Ruhr collaborated (Konsortium Bildungsbericht).
