PEACE. C.S. Lewis said ‘Expectations are everything’ We get depressed over our depression. We are sad that we are sad. If you are not for me, you are against me. If you are not purposely building my Kingdom in your life and in this world, you are investing in a Kingdom that is opposed to me.

  1. PEACE • C.S. Lewis said ‘Expectations are everything’ • We get depressed over our depression. We are sad that we are sad. • If you are not for me, you are against me. If you are not purposely building my Kingdom in your life and in this world, you are investing in a Kingdom that is opposed to me

  2. PEACE • Romans 8:7: “The natural mind is HOSTILE to God. It cannot love the law of God. It can’t submit to the law of God.” It cannot. It’s incapable of it. • Joyis a buoyancy, a spiritual buoyancy, that comes when you’re rejoicing in God. • The opposite, therefore, of joy is not sadness; it’s hopelessness. It’s having nothing to really rest in. First Thessalonians 4:13 says, “I want you to grieve,” Paul says, “but don’t grieve as those who have no hope.”

PEACE • The counterfeit of joy is actually happiness, which rests in the feeling of comfort or pleasure, and it’s resting in the blessings, not the Blesser.” . • In Psalms 4:7, there’s place where David says, “I have more joy in my heart than they have when their corn is full and their wine abounds.” • “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God …” will result.

PEACE • Jonathan Edwards ( 18thc ) in his great book The Religious Affections, says the only way you can really be sure a person’s love, joy, peace, patience, kindness and all that is not counterfeit is that it happens all together • Merimna ( to be in pieces) … merimnous • “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you so disturbed within me? Put your Hope in God …” Psalm 42
