  2. Facts About Seashells • A seashell is the exoskeleton of a Mollusk • A Mollusk is a soft bodied animal with an exoskeleton (shell) • Protection is the primarypurpose of a shell.

  3. Did You Know…? • The reason it sounds like the ocean when you hold a seashell to your ear is that the sound waves that get inside are jumbled up by all kinds of sounds • The color and pattern of a shell depends on what the mollusk eats.

Did You Know….? • That Native Americans used beads made of clam shells as money that they called wampum? • that collecting seashells at the beach is called shelling? • That hermit crabs do not have a shell but use empty shells they find to live in and when they outgrow one shell they move out into another one.
