e-Learning Object RepositoryPurpose • To have a central store for all locally produced e-learning objects, which: • - can be downloaded and re-used by NHS staff. • - are then searchable and discoverable • - can be managed and classified • To act as a stepping-stone between locally developed e-learning content and national e-learning content. • To identify an NHS user base for the eLearning Object Repository and develop a community of practice around eLearning resource development and sharing
e-Learning Object RepositoryBackground • October 2007 – commissioned by NLH on behalf of NHSI • 7th October to 3rd December 2007 – project specification drawn up • 14th December 2007 – invitation to tender sent out • 30th January 2008 – closing date • A consortium was accepted to develop the LOR • September 2008 - Beta version went live • October 2008 – support service recruited • 31st March 2009 – NLH moved to NHS Evidence • 1st April 2009 – LOR became part of NHS Institute • June 2009 – funding was agreed to continue the project

e-Learning Object RepositorySystem configuration (1) • Agreement of Depositing Content • Your institution is required to nominate 1) a main contact and 2) a depositor for the Repository. • The depositor is responsible for creating and/or supplying metadata at the time of depositing learning resources in the Repository. • Being the licensor, your institution is responsible for stipulating the licences for all the learning resources placed in the Repository. • Your institution is also responsible for clearing all Intellectual Property Rights owned by Third Parties in the learning resources for use by your institution in perpetuity before depositing them in the Repository.
e-Learning Object RepositorySystem configuration (2) • Agreement of Use • Authorised users are permitted to access and use learning resources placed in the Repository for the purpose of education, teaching, learning, private and/or research. • Any other uses of parts or the whole of learning resources obtained from the Repository are subject to the licences stipulated by the contributor of the learning resources. • Any commercial use of deposited resources and/or adaptations is forbidden.

e-Learning Object RepositoryNext steps • Transfer the site from the NLH URL • Change the branding to NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement • Change the way contributor licenses are issued • Build links with e-learning object developers and encourage them to add content to the LOR. • Promote the resource and encourage usage by NHS staff. • Confirm interoperability with the National Learning Management System. • Prioritise development enhancements with in the budget allocation. • Identify a new funding source to ensure the continuation of the project from April 2010 onwards.
