Specialisation & innovationwhat is it all about? • Supporting FE to become a provider of Innovation as well as skills • Specialist FE providers have the knowledge, skills and expertise needed for business innovation • We want to unlock the talent of more specialist providers to deliver business innovation through knowledge and technology transfer • Training Quality Standard accredited providers and National Skills Academies are well placed to lead the way • Specialist networks can accelerate this process by transferring knowledge about best practice between their provider members
Sainsbury reviewwhat did it recommend for FE? • DIUS / LSC should develop a strategy to promote and support • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) within FE • Staff secondments and exchanges with business as part of the FE workforce reform programme • FE knowledge transfer projects and initiatives • Increasing FE participation in Technology Strategy Board (TSB) funded Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
Innovation white paperwhat did it say about specialisation? • Some FE colleges and training providers already deliver innovative solutions for business • We need to encourage more providers to build their business innovation capacity • We need to double the number of KTPs and encourage the FE system to take up available funds • This goes beyond skills and qualifications - it includes product and process improvement, and business development consultancy services
Innovation white paperour response and our commitment: • LSC will create a revenue-based FE Specialisation and Innovation Fund to build the capacity of the FE sector to support businesses to raise their innovation potential • Through a small number of targeted pathfinder projects LSC will seek to unlock the talent of the FE workforce to drive business innovation through knowledge transfer
