  2. Checking the Recipe • Most families eat turkey on Thanksgiving. • There are many recipes that tell you how to cook a turkey.

  3. Preparing the Turkey • Before you put the turkey in the oven, you must prepare it. • Some people put stuffing inside the turkey.

  4. Basting the Turkey • While the turkey is cooking, it is a good idea to baste it. • “Basting” means to pour the juices over the meat as it cooks.

  5. Setting the Table • The girl is setting the table. • She is putting the plates and silverware on the table.

  6. Sneaking a Piece of Turkey • The boy is hungry. • He is sneaking a piece of turkey.

  7. Carving the Turkey • The father is carving the turkey. • He is cutting it with a sharp knife.

  8. Serving the Turkey • This man is being polite. • He is making sure his wife has enough food.

  9. Passing the Food • Don’t reach across the dinner table. • Instead, ask people to pass the food to you.

  10. Dessert • On Thanksgiving, most families eat pumpkin pie with whipped cream for dessert.
