  1. How to make PowerPoint Presentations

  2. Structure • first slide: • title of your presentation • author(s) • year • topic slides • sources - slide • end - slide

  3. Plan ahead • Familiarise yourself with the material (read different sources) • Decide on what you are going to present on slides • Get the material organised - write out headings for the topic slides

  4. The tip of an iceberg

  5. Writing topic slides • Write a heading • Turn full sentences into keywords (make long sentences short) • Follow the 6x4 rule: • 6 words per line • 4-6 lines per slide • Write (copy) the source IMMEDIATELY on the Sources-page

  6. Avoid long sentences • People tend to put every word they are going to say on their PowerPoint slides. Although this eliminates the need to memorise your talk, all in all this makes your slides crowded, wordy, and boring. You will lose your audience's attention before you even reach the bottom of your slide.

  7. Be Seen • Make sure your text is big enough • This is 28 point Arial • Anything below 24 points is too small (this is 18 point)

  8. Be Clear • Use a sans-serif font (Arial, Verdana)‏ • Serif fonts are harder to read on-screen • Italics are harder to read on-screen • Use bold or colour for emphasis • DO NOT WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPITAL LETTERS

  9. Check spelling! • Many people do not run spell check before showing their presentation - BIGG MISTAK!!!

  10. Images • Use images to communicate…

  11. …not to decorate!
