Introduction and Welcome Dear Parents Welcome to Milton Park Primary School. We are extremely proud of our children’s achievements here and believe our school is a very special place for children to develop and learn. We are delighted when parents choose Milton Park for their children to embark upon their learning journey. Milton Park is a school that is moving forward and getting better every day. The children are fantastic, the staff are dedicated and I am excited to be leading the way on its journey to success. We intend to inspire all who work with our children to ensure that every child makes as much progress as they can. Of course, the children are individuals with many different talents and abilities. We fully intend to provide them with many varied and exciting opportunities to learn while also achieving high levels of success in all areas of school life. We want our children to be proud of and enthusiastic about being part of our school. I firmly believe that education is a partnership and that by working together we can provide what is best for the children. Curriculum Our vision at Milton Park is to provide a memorable, ambitious and creative curriculum for all children. In partnership with the school community, we will provide children with exciting experiences and opportunities that will inspire a love of learning and allow children to challenge their thinking and learn together in order to become well-rounded citizens of the world in the future. • Our Curriculum includes: • Exciting, engaging topics • A strong emphasis on PSHE and emotional wellbeing to prepare children for life • A wide variety of sports activities • Dedicated arts weeks which will include a range of activities linked to the arts and the community • Immersive hook days and celebrations of learning, involving parents • Child-led learning • Time for critical thinking and also time to deepen learning • Topic linked reading texts and exciting opportunities to develop the love of reading • Challenges linked to national events • Making use of outdoor opportunities to promote links within the wider community • We aim for our pupils to become: • Happy, enthusiastic learners • Healthy, positive and active children, both physically and mentally • Employable, resilient and knowledgeable pupils ready for our modern world • Well-rounded citizens with a clear understanding of values such as respect, responsibility and friendship. Behaviour for Learning – including our Golden Rules In order to support children to develop their behaviour for learning at Milton Park, we have 3 simple rules which we call our golden rules. These are BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL and DO YOUR BEST. We believe that behaviour is learnt and can be taught. By teaching children how to be safe, to show respect and work hard, we are giving them essential skils for life. Restorative Approaches When things go wrong, we encourage children to take part in a restorative conversation. This supports their emotional literacy, helps them to take responsibility for their actions and to problem solve and put things right. • We recognise children who behave well in a number of ways: • Saying well done • Sharing positive news with parents and carers • Traffic light, moving from green to bronze, silver and gold • Dojo points • Merits • Certificates • #hotchocolatefriday with Mrs Fowler Consequences We teach children that all actions have a consequence. Hopefully, most actions have a positive consequence, but sometimes children may need to miss some of their break or lunchtime or spend some time away from their classroom in a buddy class. Inclusion and Special Educational Needs Milton Park's nurture provision is housed in a classroom called the Nest. This is a safe and calming space for those children who need a little more support to foster positive relationships. Providing an atmosphere somewhere between home life and school enables children with increasing nurture needs the space to develop their social and behavioural skills. The children attend either morning or afternoon sessions in the Nest and are taught, through play and socialisation, learning skills to take back to the classroom. Tree Tops Children can come to Tree Tops when they need some time out from the playground or the classroom. Most children take five minutes and calm down, perhaps with some breathing exercises or by doing a puzzle, and return to their learning. Return to Contents Page
Pastoral Support Children may need support for a number of reasons such as managing friendship issues, coming to terms with parental separation or dealing with a bereavement. We have a number of staff who have specific training including Mental Health First Aid, Emotional First Aid and Emotional Literacy Support. Our ELSA room provides a safe space for children to talk. Inclusion Centre The Inclusion Centre is a resourced provision which supports children with Special Educational Needs, specifically autism or communication difficulties. There are fourteen places across two rooms, with a high ratio of staffing with ASD specific training and skills. With a focus on integration, structured support is given to our children to enable them to make academic progress as well as build their social and communication skills. Each child has an Education, Health and Care Plan and learning is structured to meet the needs identified in these. The children enjoy learning in a safe environment and are able to learn how to cope with making mistakes as well as developing their independence. Children also have regular opportunities to access the community e.g. swimming, Wheels for All and library visits. Return to Contents Page
Pupil Voice We currently have two pupil voice groups in school; the main School Council and the Eco Hunters School Council The school council representatives are chosen by their classes and meet at least once every half term. They helped to choose the author theme for the class names this year. Their views, on a range of topics, are taken to the leadership team so that pupil voice is considered when making decisions. They have also represented their classes by meeting with a number of visitors this year and have been a credit to the school. Eco Hunters The Eco Hunters have been set up to raise the profile of recycling and energy saving across the school. The children fully run this group with an elected chair and vice-chair leading the way, ably supported by their clerk. The children have started a number of initiatives, including the Eco-Brick project and giving out cards to remind teachers to save energy if they have left their lights on! The children hope to win the school the Bronze Eco Award in the near future and have already “ticked off” a number of requirements. Return to Contents Page
Enrichment Each year at Milton Park we offer the children a range of performance opportunities such as singing in choirs around the city or taking part in dance festivals. Children in Key Stage 2 also have the opportunity to take part in an annual production. Children have the chance to sing, dance and act as part of an ensemble, as well as having the opportunity to perform as a main character. Past productions include Joseph and the Technicolour Dream Coat, School's Will Rock You and Milton Park's very own version of High School Musical. This is a great platform for children to build their confidence and develop a passion for performance that could stay with them for a lifetime. Milton Park offers a wide variety of enrichment activities in sport. The school offers clubs such as multi skills, judo, cheerleading and football. The children have the opportunity to attend events and compete in teams, such as Aquasplash and Quadkids. Each year Milton Park goes to Bransbury Park for Sports Day when the children can complete challenges in teams to try and win the coveted school trophy! Return to Contents Page

Currently, all classes are named after authors. The children chose these as part of their transition days before the start of the year. There are 4 classes in our Acorn building (Year R and Year 1). This is so that the hall can be used for child centred and play led learning environment. Attendance Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways parents can prepare their children for success both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your children develop healthy life habits. Pupils who attend school regularly feel connected to the school and develop important social skills and friendships. This sets them up for the future. School Uniform – including PE Kit At Milton Park, our school uniform consists of the following: - Grey skirt or trousers - White shirt or polo shirt - Navy cardigan or sweatshirt - Black school shoes Polo shirts, cardigans and sweatshirts with the school logo may be purchased online (see link below and on the school website). Parents may purchase the above items without the school logo from any other retailer. Kingfisher Milton Park Primary School runs a very popular Breakfast and After School Club. Kingfisher Club provides a fun, safe, secure environment where we offer a wide variety of activities which include arts and crafts, board games, role-play, jigsaws, construction toys, films, computers, sports and outdoor play. Registration and booking forms can be found on the school website or from the Kingfisher room before or after school. We encourage visits to the club prior to children joining us. After School Club is open from 3.15 pm until 6.00 pm. Breakfast sessions cost £5.00 which includes a hot breakfast, or toast/cereals and fresh juice. After School Club sessions cost £10 which includes a snack and dessert. Fresh fruit is also available. We offer a 10% sibling discount and accept childcare vouchers. Return to Contents Page
Parent Voice / Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Parent Voice At Milton Park, we encourage discussions with parents regarding their opinions on the school’s strengths, as well as their views on how the children’s learning could be improved. Coffee mornings are held regularly to encourage parents to talk with senior leaders about how the school is moving forward and how they can contribute to this. Towards the end of the academic year, parents are invited to join with staff, children and governors for our “SIP day”. This enables a robust review of the current SIP (School Improvement Plan) and supports the writing of the new version for the next academic year. PTA The newly formed PTA have begun their journey of supporting the school to raise funds to improve provision. So far they have organised a Christmas fayre, school disco and a scavenger hunt.
