  1. 7 th EC-GI and GIS WORKSHOP EGII - Managing the Mosaic Potsdam, 13 - 15 June 2001 Exploitation of and access to public geospatial data using standards and modern technologies in Northrhine - Westfalia, Germany Stefan Sandmann NMA NRW, Bonn, Germany http://www.lverma.nrw.de

  2. Exploitation of and access to public geospatial data using standards and modern technologies in Northrhine - Westfalia, Germany • The use of geodata in Northrhine - Westfalia and Germany • Building up a Geodata Infrastructure in Northrhine - Westfalia (GDI NRW)

  3. User demands Control of EU-sponsoring Across boundaries Oil-Pipeline Property and taxation Airport planning Most of all conclusions are based on georeferenced data Industrialisation Forest cadastre Earth- quake Disaster- Management

  4. Current situation on the local level Most of all conclusions are based on georeferenced data 64 data sources 277 relations (INPUT) 1:2.500 1:15.000 1:7.500 1:5.000 1:10.000 57 community tasks 1:20.000 1:50.000 1:500

  5. publicly-available spatial data Automated Real Estate Map (ALK) • scale 1:1000 • parcel/property related • ca. 75 % digital available ALK ALK coloured trees enviromental areas sewages

  6. publicly-available spatial data ATKIS Authoritative Topographic and Cartographic Information System • digital landscape model • accuracy of +/- 3 m • content of the map 1:25,000 • 100 % digital available

  7. Nature/topogra- phic Information National Mapping Topography / land use DLM Date of birth Living address PERSON Profession Real Estate Cadastre Address PARCEL Identification Name Value Land Use

  8. The new approach to spatial information management • A L K I S • (Official Cadastre Information System) • A T K I Snew • (Authoritative Topographic and Cartographic Information System) • GDI NRW • (Geodata Infrastructure NRW)  Infra- spatial structure data

  9. The new approach to • spatial information management • A L K I S / A T K I Snew • integrated Data Modelling: • Standardized notation, international norms • Semantic harmonization of cadastral and topographic information • Integration of metadata • ALKIS enable to manage historical data • possibility of integration of cadastral and • mapping data (vertical integration of data)

  10. The general approach ALKIS- Cadastral data Cadastral Map 1:1000 Digital products Map 1:10,000 Digital products Additional data 10 Basis- DLM Map 1:25,000 Digital products Additional data 25 DLM 50 Map 1:50,000 Digital products Additional data 50 DLM 250 Map 1:250,000 Digital products Additional data 250 DLM 1000 Digital products IWC 1000 Additional data 1000 derivation integrated actualization of independent data sources

  11. Remarks • Collected data will be used on both the cadastral level and the surveying and mapping level. This "vertical integration" is the first step to the general approach that data should only be collected once and should be used for different scales. • The general approach of the vertical integration of data can be attained if the task of cartographic generalization is solved. Over the next few years, research will focus on this subject. This will open the chance to reorganize Spatial Information Management.
