  1. What is OTT?

  2. OTT stands for over-the-top, originally called for gadgets that go "over" a cable box to allow the viewer access to TV content. In OTT networks, content is distributed over internet access instead of a regular cable/broadcast network.

  3. Over the top ( OTT) streaming became popular with the rapid rise of Netflix, as it progressed from merely watching old movies and television shows to producing original programming and more rapidly delivering authorized material. Its fast-growing viability and popularity have sparked wide-ranging competition, particularly with the younger audiences. OTT content can be watched directly on a monitor but is mostly viewed on a web-enabled television or an Internet-enabled interface such as a Roku or Apple TV linked to a traditional television system.

  4. But OTT may also be specifically specified based on the device used to view the content. Examples of OTT gadgets include Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire, Roku as well as Smart TV (Connected TVs) and gaming platforms (i.e., PlayStation, Xbox, etc.).
