  13. Chickens Here is my flock of chickens. Looks like we have a couple of eggs! I wonder what we can do with these. What do you think? After reading the fun facts click on my recipe link. It takes a hen 24-26 hours to lay an egg. Hens can lay white, brown, green pink, or blue eggs!

  14. Egg Salad Sandwich Recipe One of my favorite meals is an egg salad sandwich. Can you figure out the main ingredient in this delicious lunch? Click on the main ingredient. 6 large eggs 1 tbsp. mayonnaise 1 tiny squeeze of lemon juice 2 stalks of celery ½ bunch of chives

  15. Eggs! Eggs are a huge part of this recipe! Without eggs this meal would not be the same. What other recipes call for eggs? Type your answer below.

  16. Ducks These are my beautiful ducks. Before you read my fun facts about them I have two questions for you. First, what do ducks like to eat with their soup? –Quackers! Now, what do you think these ducks are used for around you? Type your answer below. • Ducks feathers are waterproof • When a duck quacks, it has no echo Click on this link

  17. Feathers If you said that a duck is good for its feathers, then you’re right! Now, below are two links that tell you about the uses of feathers. PILLOWS ACCESSORIES

  18. Feather Pillows There are several benefits of feather pillows. My favorite is how warm it keeps me. Do you have any feather pillows? • Feather pillows are natural and comfortable • They stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer

  19. Feather Accessories Masks and hair clips are often dressed with feathers. Some masks sell for over $50. Sounds like Farmer Freddy is doing well with these ducks!

  20. Tractors This is my favorite tool on the farm! It helps me with all sorts of things. I’m glad they are so high-tech now. • Tractors used to have metal wheels • Tractors always have a “slow-moving vehicle” sign on the back Click on this link

  21. Evolution of Tractors Click here to learn more about the parts of a tractor.

  22. Parts of a Tractor Once you are finished with this video, click below to take a quiz!

  23. Parts of a Tractor- Quiz • What symbol is required to be attached to a tractor? • What part of the tractor is this? • or : All tractors have only 4 tires. • What part of the tractor is this? Exhaust Pipes Steering Wheel Gear Shifts True False Horn Hitch Tool Box

  24. Donkeys You may have noticed my donkey, Ginger, is in the same pen as my sheep. I keep her there because she is used for protection. You’re probably thinking, “A donkey? For Protection? Farmer Freddy is crazy…” However, this is very true. • Donkeys can live up to 50 years • Donkeys aren’t easily startled, as are horses Click on this link

  25. Donkeys Used for Protection To make sure Ginger is doing her job right I have to keep her in the same pen as the sheep. Ginger eats the same food as the sheep. She relies mainly on sight and sound. She lets out a loud bellow when a predator approaches. Ginger will attack; she attacks by kicking with both hind feet. That solid blow can injure any predator!

  26. Sheep Now this is my flock of sheep. They are just about ready to be sheared. Do you know what shearing is? After reading a few fun facts keep going to learn more! • Sheep have 4 chambers in their stomach • Adult female sheep are called “Ewes” • Adult male sheep are called “Rams”

  27. Shearing Sheep Sheep have thick coats of wool. When the wool gets too heavy they need it cut, just like we get hair cuts. When they need sheared, a strong person comes to hold the sheep. They then take a razor and shear the wool. The sheep is left refreshed, and the wool is used by humans. Click on this link

  28. Shearing Tools These are hand shearers. It takes a longer time for someone to shear an entire sheep with these. They aren’t used as often as they used to be.

  29. Shearing Tools • This is the electronic shearer. These are similar to the razor we use on our hair. When I cut with these I get my sheep sheared very quickly.

  30. Shearing Tools • This is the shearing stand. The sheep stand on here with their necks lying above the post. This makes it easier for the shearer when the sheep is standing straight.

  31. Uses of Wool Wool is soft and durable! In my house I use wool for: Coats Boots Blankets Carpets

  32. Wheat This is my great wheat field! I have several acres of wheat. Can you think of what I use wheat for? Search through these fun facts, and then see what I use my wheat for by clicking on the links! • More foods are made with wheat than any other grain • One bushel of wheat makes nearly 90 loaves of bread

  33. Straw Straw is stalks of wheat left over after it is collected or picked. I use straw all over my farm for bedding. The animals stay cleaner and warmer with straw!

  34. Bread All of the bread in the store starts in the field. Most bread is made from wheat. Wheat bread is really healthy too! Did you know bread is the one food that is eaten by all cultures? It’s amazing such a connection can start right here in my field! Several different things can be put on bread. Click on what you like to put on your bread! Butter Jam Peanut Butter

  35. Your Favorite Bread Topping We all like different things! Peanut Butter is my favorite though! Crunchy peanut butter goes great on a whole-wheat piece of bread!

  36. Corn Here is my corn field! Every year I have to rotate this field between corn and soybeans. This is because each crop puts different nutrients in the soil that are beneficial to one another. Read the fun facts and then • There are several types of corn; field corn, sweet corn, popcorn, seed corn, Indian corn, etc. • One pound of corn in approximately 1,300 kernels • Corn always has an even number of rows. click on this link

  37. Uses of Corn There are several uses for my corn. However, food for humans is not one of them. This is “field corn.” Don’t get them confused, because they are very different. Click on the links to the side.

  38. Animal Feed My animals have to eat too. So, after I harvest the corn I save it. Then I have it cracked so my animals can easily eat it. Often the corn is saved in grain bins. Have you ever seen a grain bin? I use an auger to pump the corn into the grain bin. Auger Grain Bin

  39. Biofuels Corn can be used to produce ethanol as well. Ethanol is a fuel that is environmentally friendly. It is used to power machinery. My tractor, however, does not run on this fuel. Several vehicles around you are powered by this though!

  40. Corn Maze Corn is often used for a maze during the Fall months. Use the PowerPoint Pencil (located at the bottom left of this page) to complete this maze. Good Luck and Don’t get lost!

  41. Quiz Time I see you are ready for your quiz! We have gone through a lot of information today. Make sure you remember and understand everything. You may go back to review. Good Luck, and when you are finished I will see you again!
