This project aims to develop cost-effective process heat pumps for industrial heat recovery in Europe. By recovering heat from low-temperature waste streams using high-temperature heat pumps, hot water or process steam can be produced to partially meet plant heat needs. The technology will be demonstrated in two industrial plants, with monitoring and validation as key components. The project aligns with SPIRE PROCESS Key Action 2.2 and Horizon 2020 topic EE.18, focusing on energy harvesting, storage, and reuse. With a budget of around 6 million euros, including 3.5 million euros in EU funding, the project is set to run from January 2015 to December 2018. The impact includes recovering and reusing 15% of process heat, offering a turn-key solution with wide replication potential, quick payback (<3 years), and applicability across all industrial sectors. The existing consortium involves CRES, IDENER, and IZNAB, while partners sought include heat pump and compressor manufacturers, heat recovery equipment suppliers, industrial enterprises for pilot system installation, and a technology center for heat pumps laboratory testing.
