What Do You Need to Print Your Checks Printing your checks gives you the freedom to design the template and ensure you have enough supply. It is also more economical than buying the checks from the bank. Some procedures- such as using magnetic ink- make check printing a complicated process. You need to know how many checks you need in a month to see whether it's worth the trouble. You need the following to print your checks: ●Software for Printing Checks This software makes check designing easier. With this software, you don’t require special graphic design skills. If you need to write many checks, it is worth printing your own. If your company uses accounting software such as QuickBooks to create a payment, you can use that to fill in the check and print it. These programs come in handy where tracking payments is concerned. Other software such as Xero allows you to create a customized check design and include bank information in MICR format before printing the check. ●Check Stock Paper Check stock paper is produced explicitly for laser check printing. It has security features such as watermarks, microprinting, and security warnings and is compatible with most check printing software and printers. Some check stock comes pre-perforated for easy cutting. They are more costly than normal paper, but the efficiency is worth the price. ●A Printer Most printers- laserjet, inkjet, and offset- can be used in check printing. Although there are some printers that come with special security features, you can use any printer as long as it is compatible with the magnetic ink used in printing the MICR code. Alternatively, you can use the services of a check printing company to print the MICR code. ●MICR
The information typed in MICR format is usually at the bottom of the check. This information includes your account number and routing number. The special check processing computers read the MICR code. This code is also easy to read by people. To complete the transaction, the bank information is then transformed into digital data. ●Magnetic Ink Magnetic ink uses MICR technology to give the computer ability to read partially obscured MICR lines. The magnetic ink has gradually been replaced by mobile check deposit, which captures the details of the check to make a deposit. Many banks optical instead of magnetic readings. ●Counter Checks If you can’t manage to print your own checks, you can get a counter check from your bank. You can provide a blank check for a direct deposit or any other situation that may require a paper check. Banks can offer a few checks that bear your account information for a small fee.
