  2. Do Now: Brainstorming • Write today’s objective in your notebooks.

  3. Objectives: • The students will be able to analyze an informational text. • The students will be able to draft a plan for a 3-paragraph essay.

Focus Lesson: …Plain Style • Direct Instruction: Text Analysis • The Central Question: how well did the Indians get along with the Europeans? • Text Analysis: listing the headings in an informational text in an outline form • Section elimination: cross out all of the sections which don’t directly pertain to the central question. • Targeted Reading: remaining • Guided Practice: Targeted Reading • Start reading the first of the remaining sections. • In your notebooks, write: I. Forming New Relations • As you read, write down specific details you “see” in standard outline form beneath.

  5. Focus Lesson: …Plain Style • Guided Practice (con’t.) • After you finished reading the section, on your planning sheet, write the following in the spaces provided on the planning sheet: • Thesis statement: your answer to the central question • Topic Sentence #1: form a sentence from the first heaing in your notes • Specific Support: list the details you wrote immediately beneath. • Read the next section as time permits and repeat the process until all of the spaces on the planning sheet are completed (except the conclusion).
