Teaching & Learning issues- Background • Help students aim high & stretch students’ potential (ESR 2004, Science KLA QAI 2007) • Enhance students’ confidence in using EMI (Science KLA 2007, various meetings at school) • Address the diversity of learning (Change of Banding policy, Analysis of students’ performance in public exams and attainment tests 2004 onwards, various meetings & Planning conference 2008)

A1. Strategies for fostering a stimulating English environment • Create a physically English-rich environment • Increase English activities
A2. Implementation Plans • English Musical 2008 & embedded in the English and Moral & civic Education curriculum • English ambassadors to be announcers of morning assemblies; English Room, English day once a week with a lot of activities • English Self-Enhancement Scheme • Visual printed materials; Handbook & websites in English • Some formal ceremonies & Prize Presentation Day in English • SDD: English Phonetics Class for all colleagues
A3. Evaluation Good feedback as seen in • Increasing confidence of students in using English in a number of occasions • Able to stretch students with English talent, e.g. Singapore Exchange programs, SCMUN 2008; Global Young Leaders to US 2009 • Better performance in English subject HKCE, HKASL
B1. Strategies to establish proactive learning & thinking habits • Create a positive learning atmosphere at class and at school • Develop students’ skills and nurture proactive learning habits
B2. Implementation Plans • Increase participation in different interschool events and competitions (see Students’ achievements in school web) • Set up a new Homework scheme & academic prefects • Organize Study skills workshops for all forms • Assemblies, lunch talks to students of different forms • Organize Staff Development Days and discussion opportunities for teachers
B2. Implementation Plans • Teach specific or general study skills by different subjects from junior forms onwards • Improve IT facilities and encourage use of e-class • Fix Mondays and Tuesdays for academic activities • Change the grading system of report card and increase quota of repeaters
B3. Evaluation • Positive feedback from teachers about students’ learning attitude and class atmosphere • Students have greater sense of responsibility; higher expectation and clearer goals of academic performance
C1. Strategies to cater for students’ diversity • Organize small-class teaching of the 3 core subjects in different forms, in particular in exam classes • Develop new and suitable teaching pedagogies
C2. Implementation • Set up small class teaching in F.4 & F.5 English oral and writing lessons • Set up a remedial class in F.4; F.5 Chinese subject • Set up an Express class in F.2 • Set up Chinese and Maths. remedial class in F.1-3 • Set up after-school gifted class • Set up SEN group • Organize Staff Development Days (Different strategies; SEN features and concerns)
C3. Evaluation • Positive Feedback in internal assessment • More attention has been given to students of different learning needs and consolidate the academic foundation in junior forms • Improvement of students’ performance in public examination esp. in English
